Generative design
You can see also „Algorithmic design“ . It’s an iterative process which consist of program or algorithm and designer. The program generate a certain number of outputs and designer role is to selects specifics outputs or change input values, ranges and distributions. Designer doesn’t have to be a human. It can be a test program or artificial intelligence. (wikipedia)
In the field of digital design this concept can be used in branding or identity design, information visualizations or art. Generative design can be done with many programs such as Blender or Figma. Simply any program capable of generating concepts based on some data inputs. All the programs which use nodes or particle systems use generative design.

Another interesting use of these principle is to combine it with some interesting set of data. The program is able to create animations, loops or visuals based on it. Designer only tunes the design and define what generator should do. In the picture below are some examples of visualisations of sound.
This design idea is also often used in product or industry design to create physical products. With combination of CNC printing is a huge tool. It can be used for creation of any structure or pattern. It can be used for structures of buildings, materials, or shapes of materials and products. Designers can create endless structures which has some kind of logic similar like in the nature.
